On Sunday, there’s apparently some sort of game on. I think it’s the football one.cask wars

Until then, there’s Cask Wars, the head-to-head bracket-style battle that pits Connecticut breweries, and some out-of-staters, against each other in the not-so-mainstream world of casks.

It’s run by Backstage, a restaurant and beer bar in Torrington, Conn. Last week, City Steam Brewery’s Careless Love biere de garde edged out Berkshire Brewing Company’s Cabin Fever winter ale.

Tonight, beginning at 6, the battle continues with two new contestants: Olde Burnside Brewing Company from East Hartford, Conn. versus Thomas Hooker Brewing Company of Bloomfield, Conn.

In all, over seven Thursday nights, eight breweries will compete through four rounds before semi-finals, then finals. Drinkers vote at the bar or on Facebook.

Will it create a taste for cask beer, which tends to lack the carbonation that some crave? We shall see.
