One of my first and favorite beer festivals was in Naugatuck, Conn. It was behind a restaurant called Jesse Camille’s, which was right next to the Hop Brook Golf Course.

The festival was rather small, but the better word to use would be intimate. The beer — as far as I can remember — was diverse, and there was a peaceful vibe all around. It was in May, and I remember it was drizzling, but it was a warm drizzle. I don’t remember anyone griping about it.

Now there’s Naugtoberfest, presented by the 18th Annual CT Craft Brewers Festival. There’ll be a German beer garden tent, more than 100 microbrews, along with German and American food. It’s sponsored by LoCascio Liquors in Prospect.

It’s from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29. Jesse Camille’s is at 615 N. Church St. in Naugatuck.

I can’t make it this year because I’ll be leading a beer tasting in Bridgewater. But I hightly recommend Naugtoberfest, and I hope you have a great time.

Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the gate. It includes includes multiple beer and wine tastings. 100% of net proceeds benefit the Camille B. Perugini Scholarship Fund, which has awarded $166,000 in scholarships to area college-bound students since 1998.

Tickets are available starting at Jesse Camille’s Restaurant (203-723-2275) or Locasio Liquors (203-758-4533) or online through Etix.
